Program Presented by Susan B. Anthony: Sexual Assault/Harrassment

As you are already aware, there is a lot of conversation lately regarding the #metoo movement and how it effects the lives of its victims. There also seems to be some questions that need to be answered about how to protect yourself and how to speak up should the need arise. To this point, our women’s group at PVUMC are planning an event open to the public to address some of these concerns. On Thursday, July 26th at 7 pm we will host a guest speaker from Susan B. Anthony to help us to better understand these issues. We encourage anyone to come, especially those young folks who will be heading off to college and away from home in the near future. You can’t be too careful these days!

The Christmas Fair is fast approaching!

Yikes!! There are only 72 more days until Christmas. Perhaps we can help you with your shopping. Mark your calendar and plan to come to our church on Saturday, Nov. 12th from 9 am – 2:30 pm. The United Methodist Women will be hosting their annual Christmas Fair. We’ll have lots to look over including our Bake Sale, the Knit Room, two rooms in Granny’s Attic, and the unique handmade craft room. We’ll also serve you a warm and hearty lunch so you can continue your day! It’s not too early to get started as the busy times approach!

Mother’s Day Tea

To all the ladies of the church:

Come join us at the annual Mother’s Day Tea, hosted by the United Methodist Women, on Saturday, May 3rd from 2~4 PM.  We’ll gather in Fellowship Hall to celebrate the special ladies in our lives, to honor those who have already gone home to be with the Lord, and to have a wonderful time of fellowship all together.  We’ll enjoy tea and ‘goodies’, of course, as well as some games, a crafting project for the children, and an opportunity to have a family picture taken by our photographer.  This annual event is always a lot of fun, so plan to come join us for the afternoon!

UMW Starts Another Season

Here we go again!  After taking the summer months off to relax and refresh, the ladies of the United Methodist Women (UMW) at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church will enjoy their first meeting of the fall season on Wednesday, September 5th.  Following our tradition, we’ll gather at 6:30 PM and enjoy a potluck supper, as we visit around the common table and catch up with everyone.  Our business meeting will begin after the meal, and we’ll make the most of our time together to plan our fall activities, research ideas for future programs, finalize plans for our annual Christmas Fair, and remember in prayer those who are unable to be with us for one reason or another.

The UMW is open to all women of the church and we encourage you to come and get to know your sisters in Christ, learn about our activities and the ways in which we support many missions here at home and far away.  It’s a time to start afresh with our hopes and dreams for our group, for our church as a whole, and for the world-wide fellowship of Christian women.

We hope to see lots of new faces on Wednesday!

Cinque de Mayo Celebration hosted by the UMW

This year the United Methodist Women are inviting the ladies of the church to come to a Cinque de Mayo luncheon fiesta on Saturday, May 5th, beginning at 11:00 AM. In years past, the UMW ladies have hosted a Mother’s Day Tea to give our thanks to all the ladies of the church who have so generously supported our various events and fundraisers in the past. This year we’re shakin’ things up by hosting a fiesta luncheon, complete with the usual games, crafts, photo opportunities, good food, and a pinata!!

All ladies of the church are welcome to come share the day, and are encouraged to bring their daughters, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, or whomever they would like to include as guests. Please RSVP to Margo Fenn at 860-379-3874 or email at fenn.pv@charter.net. For more information, please call Margo or the church office at 860-379-2157.

Informative Program on Dementia, Stroke, and Alzheimer’s Disease

The United Methodist Women will be hosting a program on Dementia, Stroke, and Alzheimer’s Disease on Wednesday, April 4th, beginning at 7:00 PM. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Jung Kim, Professor Emeritus of Pathology at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Kim will use a visual presentation to speak about the changes that happen in the brain as the various diseases progress. He will also describe current treatments, and possible preventative measures. Because this is such a timely topic and effects almost everyone in one way or another, we are pleased to open the program to the community. Everyone is welcome to attend. Following the presentation, Dr. Kim will be available for a question & answer session, and light refreshments will be served.
