The first meeting of 2012 for the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Women (PVUMW) took place early in January. It was a time to reflect on the year gone by and welcome with joy and anticipation the time ahead. A new slate of officers will lead the group in the coming months. We are pleased to announce that Cathy Baum has agreed to serve at President, Mary Lou Centofanti as Vice President, Tisha Tubman as Secretary, and Peggy Arnold as Treasurer. Sincere thanks are given to the retiring officers for their time and efforts over the past several years that they have served this unit of the United Methodist Women.
Plans are being discussed for our annual events, the Mother’s Day Tea and the Christmas Fair, and more details will be coming in the days ahead, including dates for your calendar.
The PVUMW is a vital and active group ministry of the church and all women are welcome to come to our meetings. Why not set aside time for yourself in this new year to come and share the joys of sisterhood in Christ. Our meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM. We’d love to welcome you to our fellowship.
The annual Christmas Fair, hosted by the United Methodist Women, will take place on Saturday, December 3rd, from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The ladies have spent their time over the past year making unique handcrafted items and lovely hand knit and crocheted items that will be for sale at reasonable prices. The Fair also hosts a Bake Sale section where many yummy homemade baked goods from our church family are donated, and a couple of rooms are dedicated to Attic Treasures where someone’s “junk” can be someone else’s treasure. Santa will be on hand to have pictures taken with children, and there will be a special Children’s Activity room where the kids can be entertained while their parents shop. At lunch time, plan to join with friends and enjoy a delicious selection of lunch items all prepared by our church ladies.
All the money raised by this annual fundraiser will be used to support the UMW mission projects within the community, and throughout the greater area and the world to help make a better life for the women and children in God’s great kingdom.
Why not come and share in the fun and begin your Christmas shopping with us!
The annual Mother’s Day Tea was again a successful event. The theme for this year was threefold: first was a celebration of Mother’s Day, the second was the UMW’s thank you to the ladies of the church for their support and participation in our group’s events during the year, and the third was just for fun to host a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Some of our group dressed in costume, as you’ll see in the photos below. Guests had the opportunity to make a paperbag hat, and a chance to decorate (and eat) a cookie, as well as time to enjoy the goodies on the refreshment tables, including, of course, tea. Everyone had a wonderful time and we’re looking forward to doing it again next year.
It’s spring so it’s once again time for the United Methodist Women to host their annual Mother’s Day Tea. Plan to come on Saturday, April 30th from 2 to 4 PM and join in the fun. This year we’ll take a page from the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, so everyone is invited to come dressed as a favorite Alice in Wonderland character. There will be a couple of fun craft projects for the youngsters, an opportunity to have your family’s photo taken, and of course a lovely array of food to tempt you. This annual party is a way in which our UMW members can show their appreciation and thanks for all the ladies of the church who so generously support the group’s activities and events throughout the year. It’s sure to be an exciting time!
The United Methodist Women will be hosting a program on Hospice, presented by the Foothills Visiting Nurse Association, on Wednesday, March 2nd, at 7:00 pm. Following the program, there will, of course, be refreshments, and then a short business meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend.
UMW meetings regularly take place on the first Wednesday of each month. However, during the months of July and August we’ll be taking a summer break. During this time off, we’ll be wearing our ‘thinking caps’ to come up with program ideas for the upcoming year. Our aim is to find some progams that will appeal to everyone and meet our criteria of the 3 F’s; faith, fun, fellowship. Our meetings are open to all women of the church and we would love to welcome new faces to our group.
The next regular UMW meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 1st at 6:30 PM in Fellowship Hall. We’ll begin as we ended, with a potluck supper, a time for fellowship to catch up with everyone’s lives, time to share in Devotions and to offer our thanks to our Heavenly Father for his gracious gifts in our lives.
For more information about our UMW unit, its mission and goals, or any of our activities, please speak with Margo Fenn.
All ladies, moms and daughters, grandmothers, aunts, cousins, and more, are invited to attend the annual Mother’s Day Tea, hosted by the UMW, on Saturday, May 1st from 2PM to 4PM. Our cupcake-inspired event will include music, fun and games, refreshments, and, of course, tea. Our roaming photographer will be on hand to take not only posed photos, but casual shots as well, and everyone will be able to take home a photo memory. If you’ve not joined us in the past, please think about coming this year as it promises to be a fun-filled day.
Our first meeting of the season found 13 ladies in Fellowship Hall enjoying our traditional potluck supper. This time of fellowship is important as we take time to catch up with everyone following a busy summer. Ruth Schultz led us in
Devotions and a business meeting followed.
Of particular interest this month is an invitation we received to attend a Get Acquainted Tea for the Northwest area cluster UMWs on Sunday, September 27th. This tea will see women from several area churches come together in fellowship with the common goal of seeking ways in which to grow our individual organizations. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with other UMWs to see how each organization works, what things work well for their units, and how we can share information to build our membership.
In September we began collecting our items for the Church World Service Mission Kits. This time we concentrated on items for the school kits. Items for hygiene kits and baby kits will be collected at upcoming meetings with a final assembly meeting in April. It’s not too late to contribute something as our collection continues throughout the year.
Ann Kramer and Pat Allen continue to work on plans for the Christmas Fair to be held on November 7th this year. Everyone is encouraged to work at home on crafting, knitting, or crochet projects or attend some of the ongoing crafting sessions that have been taking place. We’ll need everyone’s help to make this year as successful as past years.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 7th and we encourage any women of the church to come and see what we’re all about.
The UMW will begin their meetings on Wednesday, September 9th at 6:30 PM in Fellowship Hall.
Please note the date and time change from the usual first Wednesday of the month. We are trying to accommmodate moms with school children who may not want to come out the first week of school.
As is our custom, we’ll gather to share a potluck supper meal and catch up with all the events of the summer. It is always a special time of fellowship and enthusiasm for the upcoming year. I’d also like to remind everyone that the fall Bean Hole Bean Suppers are being held on September 19th and October 24th this fall. Once again everyone’s support will be needed to make these final two suppers in 2009 a success.
Again, I’d like to invite all ladies of the church to come to a meeting and see what we’re all about at UMW. In the meantime, may the peace of the Lord be with you.
The UMW takes a break from meetings during the summer months, but we will begin meeting again in September. At that time, our hope is to have some information to share about making some changes and/or additions to our meeting schedule in order to attract more ladies.
Also at the September meeting we’ll begin collecting items for our mission kits by bringing something for the school kits. This is a good time to take advantage of the sales around on all the school supplies.
For anyone interested in contributing, a list of needed items will be available on the Bessie Table in the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime, I hope everyone enjoys the remaining days of the summer. Be sure to take time to appreciate the beauty of God’s wonderful world, and to give Him your thanks.
